Ryan decided to start potty training ALL ON HIS OWN last night - used the toilet 3 times before he went to bed, even! Today I am told he only used the toilet once while at his Nanny's house. Since I've been home from work this evening, Ryan has not asked to use the toilet at all. I asked him several times and he finally agreed that he needed to. THREE TIMES we have gone into the bathroom and waited, and waited and he still did not go. Five minutes after finally getting a diaper back on him, he decided he needed to go and my response, "You're wearing a diaper Ryan - I'm not playing around with you on the toilet!" HAHA. I feel terrible now that I think about it and can't believe I'm blogging it but I like to be honest!! :) I know we have a long way to go in the potty training adventure - I'm just looking for someone to be honest with me about how difficult it really can be.
It's about 45 minutes before Ryan's bed time - think I can convince him to go to bed early so I can go to bed, too?

I laughed at your post cause I've been there done that and got lots of tshirts to prove it. Scott would do the same thing, ALL the time. And I was just like you... use your diaper. When Scott turned 3 we told him we were done with the playing around and he needed to use the toilet. We had some problems for a bit but he started peeing for the most part right away and had pooping issues for a LONG time.
How old is Ryan again?
You are NOT alone. I've been unformally trying to potty train Dylan for the last 3 weeks. Some days, he goes willingly and may have only one accident. Other days he will refuse to go, say he doesn't have to, or have several accidents. It can be exhausting! Hang in there. :-)
Tamara - thanks for making your experiences relatable! Ryan turned 2 in September. I'm trying to get him signed up for preschool 2 days a week starting this coming September but he will need to be potty trained to be eligible.
Megan - Welcome to the blog - so glad you're reading! Good for you on the decision to informally potty train Dylan already. (He's not much younger than Ryan, is he?) I have to keep myself in check and remember that he's ONLY 2 and that potty training takes some time. I will try not to let the frustration get the best of me!
Glad you're going thru it first and can work out the kinks and tricks for me :)
Sounds like Ryan is doing great! He's really aware of what is going on and that's probably the first step to making it happen.
Keep it up, he'll get it!
Ok, so after I posted I realized I said unformally, instead of informally. It has been bugging me, so I'm here to correct myself. :-)
Patty- Dylan turns 2 this month. I was trying to get it done befor he turned 2, but I don't think it's going to happen. Now, my goal is before baby #2 is here. Good luck!!!
